Mafsar is a browser extension that turns your learning sessions (AI chats, articles, or any page you capture) into flashcards, quizzes, and spaced-repetition study material. This page explains what data the extension and its backend collect, how it's used, and how to delete it.
Mafsar requires a free account. Flashcard and quiz generation run on our servers, and your study data syncs to your account so it's available on your other devices. A copy is also kept in your browser's local storage so reviews stay fast.
When you capture a page, chat, or selection and ask Mafsar to generate flashcards or a quiz, that text is sent to our backend, which forwards it to a third-party AI service (currently OpenRouter, which passes the request to the underlying model provider, such as Google) solely to generate study material. We configure that service not to allow your text to be used for model training, and we do not share it for advertising or analytics.
We classify each study set's subject matter with the same AI provider to build your interest profile, driving what you see in the Global library.
The same applies to what you write in practice modes (typed answers, coding exercises, Teach it back conversations, and system design drills): it is sent to the AI service only to grade or reply, and is not stored on our servers. Practice cases in Medicine sets are built from your own notes; don't include real patient details in what you capture.
Account and synced study data is stored in a hosted SQLite database (Turso) accessed by our backend (hosted on Railway). Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
You can delete individual study sets and cards at any time from the extension. To delete your account and all associated server-side data, open the You tab and choose Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent, and any active subscription is cancelled at the same time. If you can't sign in, email sardoralien@gmail.com from the account's registered address and we'll remove it within 7 days.
When our backend hits an unexpected error, it sends a report to Sentry, our error-monitoring service. The report contains the error message and technical details, the part of our API involved, and your random account ID. It never includes your email address, password, sign-in tokens, or the content you capture.
When you capture a YouTube video, Mafsar reads the transcript shown on the video's page. When you capture a PDF, the file is sent to our backend only to extract its text: the file itself is processed in memory and not stored. In both cases the text is then handled like any other captured content, as described above.
Mafsar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be reflected here before taking effect.
